Tameside
Sea Cadets (Unit No 13) have been around since
the 1943. Then in lates 1970's the unit moved
to its present location in Lower Wharf Street.
A purpose built premises (built in the shape of
a ship) the unit sits right next to the cancal
and was opended in 1978. The unit has remained
the same over many years with lots of extra paint
to keep it ship shape, but in 2003 the unit completed
it accodomation block, purpose built accodomation
for staff and cadets this facility allows cadets
from many units to use the facilities over week/weekend
training. Then in 2004 the unit extended its galley
to cater for the additional cadets and a brand
new extension with commecial kitchen was installed
and now is used to serve up great food, nutty
and train cadets in the cook steward subject.
Over the years Tameside Sea Cadets have been a
successful unit, recently they have won the prize
as the best unit in the North West 2 years running
and have been placed in the Top 5 units in the
country. From Expedition Training, Bands and Communications
the unit has always had good success over the
years.
